I was lucky enough to spend New Years Eve on a beautiful spoil island just north of Dunedin Causeway with a large group of friends. Chad had brought the idea up a few weeks earlier as a safe alternative to partying on the mainland that involved no driving. He also wanted to post a sign on the island in memory of our friend Dustin, whom we lost in December.
Thanks to Chad and Ryan, who spent hours ferrying people and equipment on and off the little island, we were able to gather over 20 people, with 5 dogs, copious amounts of alcohol and a 6000W generator plus all the gear for a 7 piece band. Timmy managed to find 25lbs of mullet on one of the trips in his johnboat that we just had to smoke.
The weather was great for New Years Eve and the party was rolling from the moment people stepped on shore. Most of the dead wood on the island had been cut and stacked, and even with two big fires, we barely made a dent. Many beers and Pirate Bellies later, the band tried to play, but we were having trouble standing by that point.
The New Year was rung in in style with champagne toasts all around. The revelry did not quit til almost 5am for some.
January first brought cold north winds as a front pushed in, and we only had one functioning Captain at the start of the day. Loading off the island was less than fun, I spent too much time in the water and parts of me that should not be blue were...In the end, the last ofus left the island at sunset.
So this wasn't the most informative narrative of the evening, but the pictures speak for themselves. I passed my camera around, and hopefully got pictures of all involved
