There are so many stitch and glue blogs and tutorial sites, I am not going to try to be exhaustive in my narrative here. I just want to post the general progress, as well as any issues or things that I thought were cool during the process. Check out Duckworks Magazine and www.bateau.com for tutorials, forums, stories, plans, materials and generally more authoritative commentary on the subject.

I lofted the coordinates the the hull design software spit out. It is a lot like connect the dots games I played when I was a kid. Hannu mentions using 2 tape measures to speed the lofting, and it worked great. The design calls for you to loft the first and second chines only once, then essentially cut the ply in half and lay it on the other half to make mirror images of the chines that match exactly. I was able to lay out both chines at once, simply moving my tapes together. The coordinates are given in inches and eighths, so 1-7 is 1 7/8 inches. The nesting pattern x coordinates were usually pretty close, so it was just a matter of hitting x, then marking 4 y dots. Reading that back it doesn't make sense, unless you try it sometime yourself, which I heartily recommend if you can hold a circular saw and paint.

I clamped the 2 halves together using the PVC C clamps and made short work of the cuts. Keeping just outside the lines was easy using the 7 1/2in plywood blade on my circular saw.

Not sure if this all took 2 hours, but I know I was out there about that long. There was also some chatting with curious neighbors thrown in there. I had a really nice time out in the garage doing this. Of course the 70 degree weather helps. It was very soothing, I don't remember my last build being this relaxing. Then I felt like I had a clock to beat. Now I just work when I can and enjoy the time.

Next steps: Clean up the rough edges and glue the halves of the side and bottom pieces together with butt blocks.

No pics yet, it just wasn't that visually stimulating. Image
