I have not been spending much time around the house, so little has gotten done on the kayak / sculling trainer project. I am taking some cues from the EasyB cedar strip canoe project. Mainly I'm slowing down when I actually do work on this. I am a bit disappointed in my work so far, it is obvious that I wanted to cut corners and spit out a boat. Now I am not so motivated to finish it. That sucks, but I am trying to make up for it a bit in the end. It may end up heavier and not as nice as I would have liked, but it will be a nice second kayak to have around, and I will get a chance to try my hand again at sliding seat rowing at a very inexpensive buy in price! In this past session I shaped and attached the wave break. Just a simple V out of 1x2. It actually looks rather racy in its simplicity. Then I used a 5/8 boring bit to cut holes in the bow and stern for lifting and tie down straps. I had reinforced those areas earlier with some shaped wood strips epoxied in after the taping. After that I mixed up some epoxy and sealed the deck edges. Not much left now except some fairing, a coat of epoxy for the deck. Then I get to paint and she will be ready to splash!
