Finished! I have finally completed the project that was originally meant to take a couple weekends. With the paint barely dried, Alexis and I took the kayaks to Phillipe Park in Safety Harbor. The boat is heavier than I would like, but I used inexpensive luan underlayment and made no concessions for weight during the build. I can get it on the racks myself, but it is easier with help.
![]() I need to figure out a better seating arrangement since the boat is quite tender. I had a folding camp chair that I placed on a life jacket. I used a greenland style paddle I made a while back which worked well enough.
![]() This thing tracks like it is on rails. Well it is a sculling boat design, so I guess that is a good thing. It was easy to get up to speed, the flat bottom at the bow pounded a little bit. If I move my sitting position forward a bit I think that will help a lot.
![]() There was some water on the lense for the shot above, but you can see the boat has good secondary stability. I jumped in about 4 feet of water. I tried to re-enter at that depth and didn't have much luck. This is not a design for open water, that is for sure.
![]() We paddled about an hour. Including me spilling the boat. I got a good abs workout keeping the boat balanced with my given seating arrangement. Just can't wait to finish the sculling bits!
