Things have been a bit crazy in my life since my last post on the Canoe build project. Work has continued. Chad and I have finished planking the boats. The pattern on the bottom has turned out beautiful to my eyes. This post will be mainly pictures, since things haven't calmed down too much so I don't have time to do a series of posts describing every step. Everything we did was well defined in the book we are using for our build, Building a Strip Canoe
Cleaning up the outside wasn't too bad, a couple hours of sanding and planning, then filling and more sanding. The transformation from a rough hull to a smooth one was rapid and very fun to watch. As per the Gilpatrick book,Building a Strip Canoe
I don't have any shots yet, but Chad removed his boat from the molds. He cut cradles and mounted them on the strongback once the station molds were removed. He is in the process of cleaning up the inside, which is not as easy as the outside was. I couldn't resist lifting the hull up, and WOW is it light!! a one hand lift! Now just to glass the inside, mount the decks and gunwales, then finish off with seats and varnish! Hopefully all in time for my bachelor party camping trip.
These 2 timelapse videos show us finishing the bottom planking on my boat, then putting the final layer of glass on my boats.
